NCV IN GLOBAL NEWS / GLOBAL SPLASH/ DISCOVERY Husker discovery of aquatic virus-eater makes global splash IN CASE YOU MISSED IT  by  Scott Schrage | University Communication and Marketing Kit Lee and Angie Fox  Chlorovirus particles shown infecting microscopic green algae. A recent study from John DeLong and colleagues revealed that a microorganism found in freshwater can feed on chloroviruses Happy holidays, indeed. In late December 2022, a study led by Nebraska ecologist John DeLong was  published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences . That paper broke a microorganism’s big secret: Not only can it eat viruses, it can survive and even thrive on a virus-only diet. Nebraska Today published its own story  on the discovery — one viewed 18,000-plus times in less than a week. But that article was just one of many. To date, stories on the findings have run in more than 100 news outlets and more than 15 languages, from Spanish, Italian and German to Hindi, Japanese and Korean.

Fall NCV Symposium

Fall NCV Symposium Prem S. Paul Symposium in Virology presented by Nebraska Center for Virology  Morrison Life Sciences Research Center The Morrison Center was designed to foster interactions and collaborations among researchers, students, and staff. Seminar rooms are equipped with video conferencing capabilities, there are multiple conference rooms, and upscale spaces designed so that people from different labs can interact and share ideas over lunch or coffee. The Ken Morrison Life Sciences Research Center is named in honor of Mr. Ken Morrison, a Hastings, NE businessman, University of Nebraska Foundation trustee and longtime UNL supporter, who provided the lead private gift for construction.  Prem Paul in Memorium Dr. Prem Paul began his career in veterinary medicine in 1965 in Hissar, Haryana, India where he earned a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree. He then studied at the University of Minnesota and obtained a Ph.D. in Veterinary Microbiology in 1975, and later in 1977 beca

Undergraduate Summer Research Experience in Virology (USREV) Overview The Nebraska Center for Virology (NCV) faculty research topics that are challenging and meritorious, exploring problems of epidemic proportions facing mankind including AIDS and HIV replication and pathogenesis, herpesvirus latency and cancer, human papilloma virus and cancers, and chlorellavirus biology.  Our goals include designing novel vaccines and therapeutic strategies to block disease. Each year, NCV invites applications for our Undergraduate Summer Research Experience in Virology (USREV) program from students enrolled at institutions in Nebraska as well as other states, who are interested in exploring the many exciting and rewarding options for careers as scientists in biomedical research that exist through the University of Nebraska–Lincoln graduate programs while working with our experienced research faculty along side current graduate students and postdoctoral research associates in their labs.  As a sel
